The region of Cusco prepares to live with splendor its Jubilee month during the month of June. Thirty days full of official events of deep cultural significance, marked by the most solemn and majestic festivities of the year, among which are the Inti Raymi, Corpus Christi and the Lord of Qoyllur Riti.
The celebration has its roots in the decision taken on January 8, 1944, to commemorate every June 24 the Day of Cusco. This day pays tribute to the reintroduction into the universal culture of one of the greatest festivities of the Inca Empire: the Inti Raymi. The first commemoration was attended by the then President of the Republic, Dr. Manuel Prado.
Since then, the inhabitants of Cusco celebrate the jubilee month with a series of protocol, artistic and cultural events that attract thousands of national and international tourists.
Live the tradition of Corpus Christi in Cusco with the impressive entrance of fifteen saints and virgins. These venerated religious icons, coming from different places, participate in processions that culminate in the Cathedral of Cusco, where they pay homage to the Body of Christ. The saints, magnificently adorned with jewels and precious metals, create a spectacle of worship and devotion.
Enjoy the masterful representation of the custom of the vigil of the Holy Cross, a festivity rooted in the Andean-Catholic syncretism. The presentation takes place in the idyllic plaza of the San Blas neighborhood, by the artists of the Qosqo Native Art Center. The staging provides a unique window into the ancestral traditions and spiritual richness of the region.
More than 70 Cusco schools dazzle with dances full of vitality, beauty and color, highlighting the cultural richness of the region. The parade not only celebrates artistic expression, but also promotes the preservation of traditions among the younger generations.
A spectacular parade of allegorical representations, prepared months in advance, highlights cultural diversity through large-scale works. This parade becomes an artistic manifestation that fuses the traditional and the contemporary, offering a unique perspective of the cultural evolution in Cusco.
On June 17, Cusco's Main Square was illuminated with a dazzling spectacle of lights and sounds. A magical and festive atmosphere envelops the city with special effects that captivate the crowd. This multi-sensory experience not only celebrates art and technology, but also highlights the architectural beauty of the Plaza Mayor.
More than 300 thousand Cusqueños and visitors converge on the Plaza de Armas to participate in a gigantic parade in salute to Cusco, overflowing with emotion and symbolism. This civic parade becomes a visual testimony of the unity and pride of Cusco, where the diversity of the population is reflected in the clothing, music and artistic expressions.
An event that gathers artistic expressions and autochthonous dances of the four suyos.
