Machu Picchu is one of the most visited attractions in Cusco for its wonderful Inca constructions.
To protect and preserve this archaeological site, Machu Picchu authorities have implemented strict visiting routes. As of June 1, 2024, three new circuits have been established, comprising a total of ten different routes to tour the Inca city.
The 03 circuits grouping 10 routes to visit the Inca city of Machu Picchu are as follows:
Circuit one allows you to tour the upper part of the archaeological site. This tour goes through the main constructions as well as the area of the terraces and terraces in the highest part. This circuit allows you to get the best panoramic photos of Machu Picchu. There are 4 routes that can include the visit of the Machu Picchu Mountain, the Upper Terrace, Intipunku and the Inka Bridge.
This route allows you to hike to the top of the highest mountain in the whole place, the Machu Picchu mountain. The hike to the Machu Picchu mountain takes 1 hour and a half approx. This route allows the Classic photo.
This route allows you to tour the area of the terraces and terraces in the highest part. You will get the classic postcard photo of Machu Picchu from the keeper's House.
This route allows you to hike to Intipunku (Sun Gate), the main entrance to Machu Picchu in Inca times. The hike to IntiPunku lasts 1 hour and a half approx. This route allows the Classic photo from the keeper's house.
This route allows you to make the short hike to the Inca Bridge of Machu Picchu, a structure built on the edge of the mountain, which connected Machu Picchu with the villages of the jungle. The hike to the Inca Bridge lasts about 1 hour and you will be able to take the classic photo of Machu Picchu from the Keeper's House.
This circuit covers most of Machu Picchu, so it is the most recommended. Due to its popularity and the breadth of its route, it is suggested to book at least 4 or 5 months in advance. There are two routes to choose from.
This route offers the opportunity to capture the classic photo of Machu Picchu from the Keeper's House. The tour continues through the urban and religious sector of the site, including the Temple of the Sun, the Main Temple, the Temple of the 3 Windows, among other highlights. It is the most complete and recommended circuit in Machu Picchu.
This route is a variation of the previous route, it offers a more complete route and allows you to visit the lower platform. You can get photos similar to the classic photo of Machu Picchu, continues with the tour of the urban and religious sector of the site, including the main temples and Inca enclosures. It does not include additional hikes to the mountains and is suitable for all ages.
With this circuit, you will be able to reach the top of the Huayna Picchu and Huchuy Picchu mountains, the two that appear in the classic photo of Machu Picchu. In addition, you will be able to visit incredible and little explored places. There are 4 routes that can include the visit of Huayna Picchu and Huchuy Picchu Mountain.
This route allows you to visit the lower part of the city of Machu Picchu. It also includes the tour to the top of the Huayna Picchu mountain, from where you will have a great view of Machu Picchu.
On this route, you will visit enclosures built exclusively for Inca royalty. Although it does not include the classic photo of Machu Picchu, from the agricultural sector you will be able to get an image similar to the iconic photo postcard.
This route allows you to visit exclusive places of Machu Picchu, such as the Temple of the Condor, the Water Mirrors, the Twelve Spans, the Sacred Rock and more. You will also be able to explore the mysterious Temple of the Moon, a construction inside a natural cave in the middle of Huayna Picchu Mountain. This route does not include the classic Machu Picchu photo.
This route allows you to make the tour through the area of the Inca royalty. You can also hike to the top of Huchuy Picchu mountain, a small mountain next to Huayna Picchu mountain. This route does not include the classic photo of Machu Picchu.
