When we travel for the first time to a place that we do not know yet, we usually pack several things that are important and necessary for us. In that sense, if we carry a super backpack, full of things obviously we will get exhausted faster; but, if we only carry what is necessary it is likely that the pace of walking will be even lighter and we will be able to enjoy the trip better.
The route is a long one that will take you more than 3 days, so it is necessary that you carry a backpack with everything you need, such as camera, sun block, rain jacket, gloves for the cold, and the essential to carry food, snacks, enough water and extra things. The Salkantay trek gives you a variety of landscapes and each with a different climate, so we must pay attention, as there will be sunny days, rain, snow and humidity.
Always carry a jacket that will be very useful to protect you from the rain and cold, a couple of shirts that you will wear during the hike, it is recommended that these garments are light and dry quickly, avoid wearing heavy clothes.
Also remember to bring flexible pants and sneakers ideal for long walks.
Since you will be hiking for several days, I suggest that you have a pair of suitable shoes that are resistant to water and rough terrain. It is very important to bring the right shoes considering the rocky mountain soil on the Salkantay Trek.
Hiking poles are very useful when trekking, they can help you to hold on in case there is some place you can't pass through.
When we are away from home, or from our hotel for several days, it is essential that inside your backpack you carry all your personal hygiene items, such as: toothpaste, toothbrush, combs, wet wipes, toilet paper, sanitary napkins, tampons or menstrual cups; towel, sandals, because the showers will be shared and not very frequent.
If you are on a period of medication or regularly consume medication, do not forget to carry among your important things. This way we avoid mishaps, in fact, the agency sends a first aid kit, however, you must bring your own medications.
Nowadays technology has been improving and therefore a recommendation is to take a camera to record the best adventures to share them with your friends and family. Also, don't forget to have extra batteries and an extra memory card, so get that camera ready!
Documents are very important, you should always carry an original passport and your original identity card so that you can identify yourself at the various checkpoints.
