This is enough to tour the main areas and structures, such as the Main Square, the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana, and the Sun Gate, among other highlights. However, if you wish to go deeper into your experience or do additional treks, such as climbing Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu Mountain, you may need more time. It is important to remember that Machu Picchu is a very visited place and it is recommended to respect the time allotted to allow all visitors to enjoy this incredible site.

Difference between Machu Picchu, Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain

Before continuing, it is important to make a distinction between Machu Picchu, Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain. Machu Picchu is the famous Inca citadel, while Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain are mountains that offer breathtaking views of the site. Recommendations:

  • When entering the Machu Picchu Archaeological Park always carry your passport or ID card with you, as well as your Machu Picchu ticket.
  • What to bring? In addition to clothing to protect you from the sun and in some cases the rain, do not forget good shoes, mosquito repellent (yes, there are some insects that itch like hell!), water and passport, because they ask for it both to buy the bus ticket and to access the archaeological site.
