Lima, the city of kings has much to offer to satisfy the appetite of any enthusiastic traveler. Whether enjoying its world-class gastronomy, its nightlife, its colonial-style architecture or the possibility of surfing, this jewel of a Peruvian city truly offers a range of possibilities for all tastes.
Lima and Peru are the best culinary destination in Latin America and worldwide, as proof of this in the 26th "World Travel Award" Lima and Peru were chosen as the best culinary destination for the 8th consecutive year.
Why is Lima and Peruvian food in the eyes of the world? The first reason is the history of the ancient Peruvian who was characterized by being a farmer and cattle rancher, which is why he domesticates many roots, fruits and animals that in many cases are not found in other countries, i.e. we have the right ingredients. The second reason is the arrival of many European, Asian and African immigrants who brought their own gastronomy which they then combined with the local cuisine. For example: "Chifa" is a Chinese-Peruvian restaurant.
Lima already had a civilized society from the year 300 BC approximately, then the Rimac valley and the city will be conquered by the Incas in 1570 and then the Spaniards will take possession of the city until its independence in 1821. Each street, each square, each pre-Columbian enclosure has much to tell us about our own history.
Lima has a wide range of museums on archeology, art, textiles, colonial and republican history, etc. The best museum we recommend is the Larco Museum which displays a wonderful collection that encompasses a total of 3000 years of ancient Peruvian history.
Prices to museums in Lima are absolutely cheap, ranging from 3 to 10 dollars, and are generally open from Tuesday to Sunday.
We are sure that if you come to Lima you will notice that the city has high quality colonial and republican architecture. For example some churches are of Baroque style, others of Renaissance style, it should be noted that both denote that these constructions were made between the years 1535 to 1700, then we have the arrival of other styles such as neoclassical that shows much simplicity in contrast to the Baroque style. And the last stage of architectural art in Lima is the art-nouveau that arrived in Peru in the republican era, brought to this country by the French. If you love art, you will definitely consider this as a reason to visit Lima.
The Cerro San Cristobal can be the destination for those who like to walk, which can be seen from the Alameda de los Descalzos. It is also worth visiting the Parque de la Reserva y Circuito Mágico, which holds the Guinness record for being the largest fountain complex in the world inside a public park. The Parque de la Amistad is home to the Arco de la Amistad, a replica of the Arc de Triomphe, and a navigable artificial lagoon for pedal boat rides, as well as large green areas, small squares and waterfalls. The Parque del Amor (Park of Love) is a spot for lovers who wish to watch the sunset. The Central Park of Miraflores, the El Olivar Forest and the Campo de Marte are other places to visit.
Surfers should not miss the opportunity to spend time in the ocean, as Lima has some of the best waves in the world for surfing. More advanced surfers will enjoy a day at Punta Roquitas, with its cross sections, while less experienced surfers will want to head to Waikiki Beach. Both sites are just a short walk from the Miraflores boardwalk. If that's not enough, travelers can catch bigger waves at Chorrillos, the home of La Herradura, a world-class wave-breaking spot.
