6 Reasons to Visit Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is one of the most spectacular places in the world and therefore also one of the most touristic. What is considered one of the seven new wonders of the modern world received more than one and a half million visitors, and nobody wants to miss this city that hides among the clouds.

The ancient sacred city of the Incas is located in the Peruvian region of Cuzco, 2,430 meters above sea level in the eastern Andes. It is estimated that its construction was carried out around the year 1450 and is considered a true masterpiece of engineering. A religious, political and administrative complex of sacred character that was abandoned by the Incas in the second half of the sixteenth century, and although it was never forgotten, it was not until the early twentieth century when the first investigations were carried out.

It is one of the wonders of the world

It is perhaps the best known reason worldwide, Machu Picchu was chosen among the 7 wonders of the modern world on July 7, 2007, for its grandeur and scenic beauty of the entire archaeological site.

In addition to this recognition as a wonder of the modern world, Machu Picchu has been on UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites since 1983, as part of a whole cultural and ecological complex known as the "Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu".

Prestigious magazines such as the National Geographic Traveler, Lonely Planet, TripAdvisor travel guide, among others, included it among the most representative constructions made by man, and among the most amazing places in the world.

Feel the energy of one of the most spiritual places in the world

In the world there are different energetic points to reconnect and recharge your energy network. These spiritual places have deep energies that make people experience incredible connections. Machu Picchu is one of these energetic fields of the earth as well as the Rila in Bulgaria and Easter Island in Chile.

And it is known that the place where this Inca site was built, was not chosen at random rather it was carefully chosen as well as the structures that are around the entire city.

There are places or sectors where the energy is much stronger, such as the Intiwatana or solar clock, the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Three Windows, the liturgical fountains, the main temple, the Palace of the Ñusta, the Sacred Plaza, the Royal Mausoleum and many other places; each one with an incredible story to tell.

Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is so wonderful that there are alternatives to get to the place and one of them is the great adventure of the Inca Trail, ideal for tourists who want to hike and learn a little more about the Inca culture. The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is considered one of the 5 best hikes in the world and has a dream ending at the "sun gate", the ancient main entrance to Machu Picchu.

During the route, besides enjoying the beautiful scenery and fantastic panoramic views, you will visit other archaeological sites such as Patallacta, Runquracay, Sayacmarca, Phuyupatamarca and the so-called "Sun Gate" or Intipunku, from where you have a spectacular view of the Inca citadel at sunrise.

In addition, Machu Picchu can be reached by doing other treks such as the famous Salkantay trek, Choquequirao trek; or by doing adventure sports on the Inca Jungle route. All of these are amazing treks that have Machu Picchu as their final destination.

Flora and fauna native to the area

Machu Picchu is home to a great diversity of wild flora and fauna; and this is another reason to visit. Among the flora are large forests of native trees such as q'euña, alder, intimpa, cedar, pisonay and more than 340 species of orchids that have caused great interest in botany lovers.

Machu Picchu is also the habitat of insects, among them more than 300 species of butterflies, birds, mammals, including the Andean bear or spectacled bear, Cock of the Rock (National Bird of Peru), river otter, sword-billed hummingbird, Andean puma, Andean deer, Andean fox and vizcachas.

And of course the llamas that we will be able to observe inside the sanctuary, and why not, take some pictures.

Climb the Huayna Picchu mountain and have an incredible panoramic view

In front of the citadel of Machu Picchu appears the great mountain of Huayna Picchu (young mountain), which appears in many photographs of the Wonder of the World, this has a height of 2700 meters and there is a well marked route to climb to the top and have an impressive view of the entire archaeological complex, as well as the canyon and in general the entire natural landscape surrounding the Wonder of the World.

Every day many tourists climb the mountain before taking the guided tour of the citadel; likewise, the mountain also has archaeological samples such as terraces built by the Incas.

Given the desire to climb by visitors, and meet the challenge of reaching the top, to admire the incredible panorama from the top, today there is only a limit of 400 people per day that can access this mountain, so you must secure your space for the Huayna Picchu mountain in advance to not miss this unique opportunity to experience Machu Picchu.
