Puerto Maldonado is a year-round destination thanks to its tropical rainforest climate. The dry season (May to October) is ideal for hiking, wildlife observation and outdoor activities, while the rainy season (November to April) offers lush landscapes, higher river levels and excellent opportunities for boat excursions in the Peruvian Amazon.

Puerto Maldonado is home to some of the most incredible natural attractions in the Peruvian Amazon, including the Tambopata National Reserve, Sandoval Lake, Monkey Island, macaw clay licks and pristine rainforest trails. Many tours also include night walks and wildlife observation activities.

The Amazon rainforest around Puerto Maldonado is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. Visitors often spot monkeys, macaws, toucans, caimans, giant river otters, capybaras, turtles and hundreds of bird species.

We recommend spending at least 3 days and 2 nights to fully experience the Amazon rainforest. Longer tours of 4 days and 3 nights provide more opportunities to explore different ecosystems and observe wildlife.

Yes. All tours include accommodation in eco-lodges located within or near the Tambopata National Reserve. Lodges typically offer comfortable rooms, full-board meals and direct access to the rainforest.

We recommend lightweight long-sleeved clothing, comfortable hiking pants, waterproof shoes or hiking boots, a rain jacket, insect repellent, sunscreen, a hat, reusable water bottle, flashlight and binoculars or a camera for wildlife photography.
