Discover Waqrapukara on a 1-day tour and marvel at the impressive horn-shaped Inca fortress, located on top of a mountain in Cusco. Waqrapukara has a unique beauty. Its formations are the result of sudden changes in temperature, rain and hailstorms. On the hike to Waqrapukara you will be able to appreciate the majesty of the place and observe the beautiful landscapes that surround it. This great trek takes you outside of the traditional treks in Cusco.
ITINERARY
Experience Details
Pick up from the hotel between 4:00 and 4:30 in the morning.
We will start the trip for 1:30 hour and a half, in our tourist transport, to the district of Cusipata, where we will have our breakfast.
Then we will return to our transport that will take us for 1 hour more approximately, by an unpaved road to the place called "Punta Carretera". Place where we will stop for about 10 minutes to make the last preparations before starting our hike to WaqraPukara.
The walking time will last from 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours approximately. We will walk along a flat road slightly stretched with small ups and downs, the distance to travel is 2.5 kilometers approx. During the journey, we will enjoy beautiful landscapes, such as the high lagoons of the Andes or Cochas.
As we approach the Waqrapukara archaeological complex, we will appreciate the gigantic rock formations that give depth to the Apurimac River Valley. Finally, we will arrive at WaqraPukara.
Waqrapukara was a religious sanctuary. Its fine constructions made of granite stone prove it. The guide will explain the importance of this archaeological complex, and we will have free time to visit the place on our own, take pictures, enjoy the scenery and the majesty of the archaeological complex of Waqrapukara.
After the visit we will return by the same way to Punta Carretera, here our transport will wait for us and bring us back to the district of Cusipata where we will have our respective buffet lunch and after lunch we will return to the city of Cusco.
This will take two and a half hours. We will be in Cusco at approximately 18h.
The time of the tour will be confirmed at the destination.

Important details:
- Hiking distance: 12 km / 6.4 miles.
- Hiking time: 6½ to 7 hours approximately.
- Maximum altitude: 4400 masl / 14,436 ft.
- Starts: Pick up at your accommodation in Cusco around 4:00 am.
- Ends: Return to Cusco around 6:00 pm.
Recommendations:
- Bring your original identity card or passport.
- Bring warm, waterproof or thermal clothing (jacket, scarf, gloves, and hats).
- We suggest doing the tour with trekking shoes.
- Bring a small backpack with your camera, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen and a bottle of water.
- Raincoat in rainy season extra clothes (from October to March). Rain poncho.
