The legend tells of a young maiden named Huacay China who fell in love with a brave warrior. He dies, and when she finds out, she goes to her meeting place in tears. Before leaving, she decided to look at herself in a mirror that she carried with her, at that moment she saw her lover reflected. Terrified, she began to run, dropping the mirror, which then took the shape of the lagoon. Seeing what happened, Huacay decided to dive to finally become a mermaid.

One of the most popular attractions in Huacachina are the buggies, which can be rented for as many hours as you want. Of course, depending on the latter, you will be charged a corresponding fee.

The dunes in Huacachina are truly magnificent, and you can see hundreds surrounding you in the distance. If you fancy a hike, there are plenty of high dunes to conquer, although be careful, climbing over the sand is hard work.
